RIN
Age: Eight
Gender: Female
Orientation: Rin has, as yet, not discovered the concept of sex or sexual preferences. The general thesis at the moment is that Rin will turn out heterosexual, but of course, there is always the possibility for the unexpected when she matures.
Race: Human
Occupation: Following Lord Sesshomaru around.Looks Aren't Everything
Birthmark(s): Like most birthmarks, it has no set design—kind of like a very faded burn mark—and it’s placed just above her bottom.
Scar(s): Multiple scars on her body; most are from when she died from a wolf attack, but there are others from earlier in her life, with unknown origins.
Appearance: Rin is, in all ways, a very typical little girl. Her body is slightly smaller than other children her age, no doubt from malnourishment after her parents died and she had to fend for herself. Despite this smallness, Rin is a survivor, and it shows in her body. Her legs are strong from running away from the villagers—or just running down hills in general, she does so enjoy that—and her arms have strength as well, though they are used more for speed then strength; it takes speed, rather than strength, to catch a fish with your own two hands.
Her face, despite the horrors that she has witnessed, maintains a very innocent, very youthful look—as if everything that has happened to her hadn’t managed to reach the special innocence inside her. Her eyes are large, brown optics that take up much of her face, and only get bigger when she spies something that she likes, or when she sees something that is inherently bad, but she doesn’t quite understand. And to match the innocence that is practically always revealed in her eyes, she has a particularly sweet smile that is maintained almost all the time—though the rest of the time her mouth is opened and she’s chattering away like there’s no tomorrow; even if no one’s listening to her. What's Beneath the Skin
Personality: Rin was not always so cheerful and loud, jabbering around to anyone and anything that happens to be near her. She didn’t always jump around and chase after butterflies, she didn’t always dart away from the group to grab the handful of flowers that was in her sights. This is her now, a bright and bubbly little girl that finds the fun in everything and anything, that can make anyone smile no matter the situation, and that somehow manages to make everyone—who possess a heart—fall in love with her innocent smile and desire for true happiness. It’s as if the life before her death had never happened, because she doesn’t let it touch her. Instead of brooding over every possibility of death, or cowering in the dark, Rin chooses to live her new life to the fullest, having fun with her new ‘family’.
But that life did happen, no matter how much Rin chooses to ignore it. Once upon a time, Rin lived with a furtive look on her face, rather than the bright smile that now inhabits that self same region. Once, her spirit was close to breaking, with no one there that wanted to think of her wellbeing. Even the brightest flower, when left in absolute darkness, will begin to wilt. But no more of that life, for Rin has a guardian and a family, and her smile lights up the sky without fail each and every minute of the day.

- Koga—she doesn’t really know him, or remember him in any real way, but if she saw his face she’d remember him as the man who brought the wolves to her village, and subsequently as the cause of her death; so seeing him would likely result in a shriek and her attempting to climb up Sesshomaru.

Family: Her mother, father, and brother were slaughtered at an unspecified time in her life. Now she has a sort of ‘pseudo-family’ with Sesshomaru, Jaken, and Ah-Un.
History: Rin’s family died when she was very young, probably not much older than five or so years, and there was no kind soul or distant family member to take her in after the bandits slaughtered her family. The village people were cruel, but not to the extent of driving her away completely, they simply ignored her existence—she was given no shelter, no food, and no help when she fell ill or got hurt. Without someone to care for her, Rin had to learn how to take care of herself, relying on any and all skills that developed along the way. She stole food whenever she could, she learned how to fish with her own bare hands—though technically, this was still stealing, as she was stealing from the town’s reservoir. In addition to learning how to feed herself, she learned that an abandoned hut could really be a cozy home if you just closed your eyes and let your imagination take over, so long as you could imagine away the cold of winter and rain. Throughout the years of surviving on her own, the villagers began to notice that the little girl never spoke a word; indeed, it seemed to be a rare thing for someone to get so much as a soft cry or a grunt out of her. Was her family’s brutal murder or the cruelty of the villager’s the cause of her shocking muteness? No one really knows, as Rin herself would never give an answer.
The years continued to pass and there was no change in her behavior, nor in her life; until one day when she went scavenging through the woods as per usual, and stumbled upon an injured and unconscious youkai—Sesshomaru-sama. Who knows what made Rin approach the youkai, for surely any sane child would have screamed their head off and run back to the village as fast as their little legs could carry them. But not Rin; no, instead of fleeing the scene, she chose to venture closer to him, only to have her courage rewarded with the youkai awakening, a feral growl on its lips. Fear paralyzed her for only a moment, before she threw what remained in her water canteen at his face and ran back into the woods—this act was not any sort of attack or defense, Rin was simply attempting to do him a favor. Now, whether or not the favor was washing his face, or trying to give him a drink of water, one doesn’t really know; she was too frightened to get any closer to him. Perhaps he thought that this was the last he’d see of the little girl, but it was not to end that way, for she continued to bring him food—despite him constantly attempting to tell her that he did not and would not consume human food. Still not listening to the reprimand from the injured youkai, Rin wanted to make it all better, wanted to care for him as no one had cared for her; and attempted to steal fish for him, presuming that he wouldn’t eat the food she’d brought because it wasn’t meat. Unfortunately for her, she was caught in the act, and a ferocious beating ensued. As always, not a sound was uttered by Rin throughout the beating, and she managed to bring her battered and bruised body into the forest, to Sesshomaru—the fish she’d gone through hell to get was clutched in her fingers. Once again, though, he denied her generosity, though this time the usual words differentiated from the pattern she’d become accustomed to; he inquired into her bruises, so great was her happiness that a smile finally broke through the cloud that usually hung over her face, and she even made a few noises pointing to happiness. No one had cared about her wellbeing since her family had passed away.
She went back to village, her mood perhaps the best it had been since the death of her family, only to find a strange man rummaging through her abandoned hut. What was he doing there? For some reason, though she had not truly been frightened by the youkai, terror struck through her when she saw this man, and heard the sounds of another strange man outside—and wolves. The stranger pushed her out of the way as he ran out of the hut, leaping for the water to circumvent the wolves, but to no avail. The wolves caught this man, and the other stranger that looked like he belonged in wolf pack killed the one who had intruded in her hut; with a smile on his face. Her feet were rooted to the spot, she was so afraid, as the man gave casual permission to his wolves for them to feed—and the slaughter of her village ensued. Finally, her terror gave way to panic and she found that she could move again; and move she did. She ran into the forest just as fast as her little feet could carry her, holding in her mind an image Sesshomaru-sama, clearly thinking that she would find safety with that youkai. Unfortunately for her, the sound of the wolves on her heels scared her even more, and she tripped and fell over a root that stuck up in the middle of the path. Within seconds, the wolves were upon her body, and little Rin was no more.
Hours later, Rin felt the most curious sensation—she was…returning to life? It was a confusing moment for her, and quite disorienting. When she finally had her bearings, Sesshomaru-sama was setting her on her feet, though she found that she’d felt much safer cradled against his chest. All the same…she was alive. Her eyes were huge, and an unsure smile danced on her lips before her little feet started running again, and her arms wrapped around Sesshomaru-sama. Her guardian, her savior, someone she would follow till the end of time. And that’s what she’s done ever since, followed Sesshomaru-sama.
How You Play
RP Sample:
It was spring, Rin’s favorite time of the year. The flowers were just now blooming, some of them would only come out at this time of the year; but in any event, the flowers were always at their best in the spring, and Rin adored flowers. The smile on her face grew even bigger as she ran down the hill to the large patch of flowers at the bottom, Ah-Un following at a much slower pace. She dropped into a roll as she got closer to the bottom, high pitched shrieks of laughter peeling out of her uncontrollably. The fun of rolling down the hill and the joy of finding flowers to pick in just a moment were almost enough to take her mind off the fact that she’d been left alone again. But just the thought of that was enough to have her sitting up when she reached the bottom, her little arms crossing over her chest and her pretty smile falling into a pouty little frown.
Sesshomaru-sama had left her again, you see. And to make matters worse, he’d taken Jaken-sama with him! She hated being left alone, not that Ah-Un wasn’t preferred company, but it always made her feel just the slightest bit panicky when Sesshomaru-sama had to go off and fight some big, bad, beasty and she was left all alone. “Oh, Ah-Un, when do you think Sesshomaru-sama and Jaken-sama will be back?” She sighed, falling onto her back and looking up at the two headed beast. At least she had Ah-Un with her, it would be horrendously depressing if she were all on her own!
Shaking her head, Rin rolled onto her stomach and twisted about so that she was facing the flowers, and propped herself up on her hands so she could pick out the flowers to get today. “What do you think, Ah-Un?” Her voice increased in volume as she called back to her ‘little pet’, though she received no answer other than a nudge. “Maybe Sesshomaru-sama would like those…or those…or maybe even those? Oh those!” A delighted bit of laughter emerged from her as she bounded forward and began to grab as much as she could, picking one after the other in a very careful manner. She couldn’t squish even one of the flowers that she was absolutely certain her guardian would adore. He always liked the flowers she gave him; or at least, he never told her to stop giving them to him.
Rin managed to lose track of time as she ran from one patch of flowers to another, forming a rather impressive bouquet as she went. The sun was setting by the time she heard her name called by that voice that she’d recognize anywhere. Her eyes grew large and a huge smile took over her face as she jumped up and ran as fast as she could to wrap her arms around one of Sesshomaru-sama’s legs. “Sesshomaru-sama! Sesshomaru-sama! Rin missed you so much! You need to stop leaving.” She released him so she could back up and pout at him. But the pout was gone within seconds as a giant grin took over her face when she offered up her bouquet of flowers for Sesshomaru-sama to have. Her face was just as hopeful as always, just waiting for him to make her day by taking the flowers; and she always hoped for a smile to go along with the motion, but she truly knew better than to think such an impossible thing would happen. It was enough that he let her pick flowers, that he brought back her voice and her laughter, that he took care of her and worried about her. It was more than enough.
“Sesshomaru-sama.” Her voice was sweet and queit as she giggled a little bit, so happy to have someone to care for her.__________________________________________
