The large open Plains of Hirosha was the perfect place for anyone who wished to see a large variety of flowers. Purple flowers, red flowers, tall flowers, short, thorny, and intricate. It was a beautiful sight, along with the tall grass in the background, swaying like the waves in the ocean. On a cool spring day, the flowers were just beginning to bloom, and the dew was just beginning to fade. The patches of flowers were practically untouched, except for a patch of Forget-Me-Nots.
Inside the patch, a circle of flowers had been flattened under the weight of an unwelcomed visitor. A small hanyou boy slowly stirred in the circle of pancaked flowers. His eyes opened and he slowly sat up, a few of the flowers in his snow white hair. The boy quickly shook his head, sending the flowers in his hair to fly out of his messy locks and fall to the ground. The head shake had caused him to wake up a little more, and he let out a small yawn.
Katsuo brushed aside the warm cloak to reach up and rub his eyes, tail swishing quietly back and forth underneath the cloak. Katsuo lowered his hands and set them on the ground in front of him, leaning lightly on them. He blinked a few times, before his vision cleared and two blue eyes scanned his surroundings. He had fallen asleep, not much by choice, in the bed of Forget-Me-Nots, and had managed to crush a circle of them by shifting in his sleep.
His tail continued to slide back and forth as he stood up to get a better view. His expression brightened a little as he realized he'd fallen asleep in a giant field. As he noticed the plants around him, it dawned on him that there was probably a good rainfall and probably a lot of little critters around. Katsuo took a deep breath of the air, and sneezed in reaction to the flowerly scents that flooded his system. His ears folded back as it dawned on him his sense of smell had become useless with all the flowers' scents trying to beg for his attention.
With a rub of the nose, Katsuo slid from the flowers and stood in one of the clearings that seperated the beds from each other. As he looked around, he was in awe of all the flowers blended together in the small part of the field. He even noticed a few of them starting to slide open, while a majority had already blossomed. Katsuo's eyes locked on where he had fallen asleep and he smiled nervously at the fact he crushed so many little flowers. 'Oops...' he thought quietly and quickly scanned his surroundings as if to check if anyone had seen him there.
The night before, Katsuo had insisted on trying to cross the plain in one day, but had dropped from exhaustion. He would've moved it he had realized he had dropped down on a bunch of flowers, but it was rather dark and the moon was almost gone, providing little light for the half demon. The memory of the small moon made Katsuo's heart skip a beat as he remembered the new moon. He gazed around the plain for some sort of place he might be able to hide for the next night, and frowned when he saw his best bet was tall grass.
"Dammit" the young hanyou cursed, ears flattening as he realized how much he just screwed himself over by heading out into the middle of the plains on his own. He sat down on the grass and sighed, thinking of how he was gonna get out of this problem. He shifted a little and pulled off the artic fox demon fur cloak and laid it on the ground so he could cool a little. Now his brown kimono shirt was the top layer shirt wise. The thin fabric provided a relief from the warm fur, and allowed the cold breeze to cool down the once hot hanyou. He closed his eyes and laid back on his fur cloak and began to think over plans for what he could do to find protection from the New moon tonight.

Sesshomaru-sama had left her to go do something yet again, and of course he was willing to take Jaken with him, but for some reason little Rin wasn’t allowed to go whenever there was a possibility of some beasty thing being around. And once again, she was left with no one but Ah-Un to keep her company. Not that she didn’t completely adore Ah-Un, she loved the two headed beast with all her heart and could almost always be seen absently stroking one of the heads, or decorating both with a linked flower crown. She adored making flower crowns, and Ah-Un was one of the few that would actually put up with her attempting to decorate every being she saw with flowers that she’d found. Sesshomaru-sama didn’t really seem to like it when she wanted him to wear one of the flower necklaces that she’d made, though for the life of her, she couldn’t understand why. They were always very pretty necklaces, and she always made sure to carefully match the flowers to his armor and clothing, but for some reason he always took them, but never put them on. Sometimes, it made Rin more than a little sad that he wouldn’t wear her necklaces, but she supposed that it probably had something to do with him being a big bad youkai, he probably felt that he was too important to wear her necklaces. Thankfully, Ah-Un did not suffer from such thoughts. He always accepted her flower gifts and wore them no matter what, even nuzzling her in thank you or something of that appreciative kind. Rin smiled to herself as she thought about that, moving her hands to stroke both of the heads in easy happiness. Ah-Un never left Rin, and never turned down her gifts; this was one of the reasons why she adored him so very much. Of course, the adoration she felt for Ah-Un would never compare to that which she held for her savior and guardian, he had brought her back to life, no amount of refusing flower necklaces and crowns would ever make the love she had for Sesshomaru-sama go away.
Although, that didn’t mean that she wasn’t going to pout a good deal when he decided to go off and leave her with Ah-Un. It just wasn’t a very nice thing to do, considering how very much she loved to be in Sesshomaru’s company. So she’d decided to take advantage of this very common opportunity to gather as many flowers as she possibly could. No doubt they’d be on the move again soon, and she liked to make flower things when they were travelling, it helped pass the time when no one wanted to listen to her chatter on; not that she stopped talking just because no one wanted to listen and she happened to be making items out of flowers. It was just something to entertain her mind while she rambled about nothing in particular. But in any event, she was here to gather flowers, and so to get the maximum flower gathering potential, she’d made sure Ah-Un came with her—not that he would have let her go off on her own, but she liked to think it was her decision—so that he could carry some of the flowers that she couldn’t. It was a perfect plan, one that had taken her only a few minutes to put together, but one that she was still very, very proud of. And if anyone made fun of it, well, they risked watching little Rin’s face crumple into one of pure despair that not everyone in the world loved her flower gathering plan. But it was a rather decent plan, and there was no one about to point out that it really shouldn’t be counted as a plan since all she was doing was gathering flowers. And as long as there was no one about to crush her little flower gathering dreams, the world would continue to spin as was planned. Because there was no doubt about it; if someone crushed her flower dreams, Rin would cry until the world ended.
“C’mon, Ah-Un! We gotta go find some flowers. I know I saw this like…huuuuuuuge valley with tons and tons and tons of flowers. We can make tons of things with all those flowers!” Her laughter followed her energized words as her tiny feet thumped at Ah-Un’s back, something she wasn’t even sure he would feel, wanting to get on to the valley already. Thankfully, Ah-Un sensed her eagerness and took to the skies rather than walking over the land, and they reached the plains that held so many flowers in a matter of minutes. Giggling with her joy of being surrounded by so many flowers, Rin rapidly hopped off Ah-Un and started darting around the flowers, falling near one patch to smell them and then jumping up to run to the next patch and admire them. So absorbed was she in running about, her arms wide spread so that she could feel the wind rushing around her as she ran, that she didn’t even notice that there was another being in the field with her. Ah-Un had taken notice though, he was always alert in case there was something about that intended harm to the little girl that seemed to make everyone love her. It was a dangerous world that they lived in, and for some reason Rin seemed dead set on being oblivious to that very real fact. In her eyes, the world was a lovely place where she could find flowers to give to people and make friends with everyone no matter who they were. She didn’t take notice of the horrid fighting that went on every single day, or of the hatred that ran rampant through so many lives. Every where she looked she saw happiness and a potential for even more joy; there was no room for anything bad when it came to Rin.
This was why Ah-Un had to watch out for her whenever Sesshomaru went somewhere, because Rin would run up to one of the Youkai Lords and attempt to give them a flower and a hug without thinking a thing about it, and subsequently get killed in the process. So Ah-Un took care of her and watched over her, always making sure that nothing harmed the little girl. Thus it was he that alerted Rin to the little hanyou’s presence in the fields, taking a protective stance beside the eight year old girl. She giggled and patted one of Ah-Un’s heads before taking off straight towards the hanyou, she spread out her arms again so that when she threw herself into the air and landed on top of the hanyou it felt like she was flying for just a few seconds, though she giggled rather loudly all the while. “Hi there! My name’s Rin, what’s your name? Do you have a favorite flower? I don’t, I love all the flowers, ‘cause they all smell amazingly pretty. I’m getting lots of flowers so that when Sesshomaru-sama decides it’s time to go somewhere again, I’ll have enough to play with that I won’t get bored just talking to Ah-Un. Do you know Sesshomaru-sama? Sesshomaru-sama is amazing, he takes care of me, he’s my best friend. But sometimes he leaves me all alone with Ah-Un, not that I mind being with Ah-Un, I love Ah-Un. I don’t like it when Sesshomaru-sama leaves me though, ‘cause I like to be around Sesshomaru-sama, since he’s so nice to me. Do you want a flower necklace? Ooooo, or a flower crown? I love making flower necklaces and crowns and bracelets, and even belts! They look so cool, and they make you smell really, really, really good! Plus they’re fun to make—AND OHMYGOSH YOU HAVE THE CUTEST EARS!” The constant flow of chatter stopped immediately when she finally spotted his ears, her arms automatically stretching outward so that she could rub them, her eyes wide with astonishment. He had ears just like Sesshomaru-sama’s little brother! She’s always wanted to pet them, but Inuyasha was kind of scary. She didn’t think he would put up with her touching his ears. But this hanyou’s ears were just so adorable! She couldn’t help but scritch behind one of them while rubbing the other at the same time. So cute and fluffy and it was just so adorable!
“You have cute ears! What’s your favorite flower?” Her smile was just as big as always, taking over most of her face so that her eyes had to close a little bit.

Sure, it had started out going his way! Nice morning, Sesshoumaru-sama telling Rin to stay with Ah-Un while they went off to go do who-knows what. But after they'd left Sesshoumaru-sama had told him to follow! Ugh, so he had to watch the little brat again! Why couldn't he just spend time helping Sesshoumaru-sama anymore?! It was like every spare moment was spent watching over that foolish human girl! And now he was following the footprints of that dragon, Ah-Un, as Rin had named it. Jaken's large yellow eyes searched over the ground as he spent a good amount of his concentration trying to follow them and the scent of Rin and the Dragon.
So concentrated was he on the footprints, however, that he didn't notice the tree at the edge of the valley. The footprints disappeared into the thickening grass and weeds and flowers and plants of all kinds. His search abruptly came to a halt when he ran face-first into the tree. Jaken fell over flat onto his back, his eyes swirling. The Imp saw stars before he sat up and looked out across the valley. Rin was running around happy, Ah-Un quietly sitting their and sometimes following. Jaken noticed the hanyou sitting there before Rin did, apparently. Just a split second before. Jaken got to his feet and scampered into the valley, the flowers so tall they sometimes came up to his chest. Wasn't too much of a large feat, considering how big he really was anyway. "RIN!" He squawked loudly just as the young human girl launched herself at the hanyou.
Then Jaken kept walking, trying to keep the Staff of Two Heads above the flowers. He didn't care too much for the smell of them himself, and he didn't want the odor covering his staff! Then it would smell for at least a few days! Not that it didn't already usually, from the girl's constant barrage of flowers. What was her problem? She had flowers on the brain! He watched with mild amusement mixed with a mild irritation as Rin proceeded to rapid-fire twenty questions at the hanyou and rub his ears. Jaken glared at her. "Rin! Get away from that filthy creature this instant!" He would've growled at the hanyou himself, if growling was something Imps did. The vermin might leave his stench on Rin and then Sesshoumaru-sama would surely be angry! Jaken raised his head and waved his staff madly around! He was about to say something more, when a bee flew out of the flowers, bothered by his mad-staff-waving, and started to buzz at Jaken's head.
"Eh? Shoo!" Jaken then began swatting at the bothersome insect and waving his staff at it. In about three seconds he had every bee in about a three-yard radius angered. The swarm buzzed angrily before high-tailing it at Jaken. The Imp had no second thoughts about his next courageous action. His eyes widened, he turned and began running as fast as his little legs could take him, screeching in a panicked way. Soon he tripped over a log and landed in a hole, and the bees, apparently oblivious, kept on the other way. Jaken lay in the hole for a long moment before getting up, climbing out of the hole and making his way back over to Rin. He glared at her and the hanyou and all the flowers in the general vicinity. "Now you, shoo! Go on, get!" He waved his staff at the hanyou, grumbling loudly.

Katsuo felt almost relaxed enough to fall asleep, dropping his guard, and closing his eyes. He smiled in content of the comfortable blanket his mother had given him. It was the only thing he had that had any connection with her what-so-ever. He never had a chance to meet her, and that was why he was out here. He wanted to find her... He wanted to be with her.
Katsuo's ear twitched as he heard something, and he groaned, not really wanting to get up. His eyes slid open and he sighed as his vision was blurred, again. He rubbed his eyes and opened his eyes a little, once more. They flew wide when he saw something jump at him, but before he could react it landed on him. The wind was knocked out of him and he quickly gasped to recapture the air and sighed once he caught his breath. He looked up at what landed on him, and was shocked to see it was just a little child.
A little child who didn't stop talking, that is. Katsuo looked at Rin in irritation, but didn't shove her off liked he'd do to any other person who'd tackle him. She was only a kid, as if she knew any better. Katsuo listened to her rant and rant, and his ears twitched at the name 'Sesshomaru'. His mind flashed back to the forest wher Sesshomaru had caught the rabbit for him. Katsuo tuned out for a moment, before tuning back in when she yelled.
"Don't touch 'em" he whined, the ears folding back. He blinked in surprise when she started to scratch behind his ear and he didn't expect it to feel so good. Katsuo's tail wagged a bit underneath him and he blushed in embarassment of what he just let the girl get away. How embarassing, pinned by a human, and enjoying the fact she treated him like a dog.
"My name is Katsuo, I don't have a favirate flower..." he informed, ears folding back and he reached up and gently nudged her to try and get her off. He smiled nervously and mumbled "Would you please get off of me, Rin-chan?" His ears flew back up when he heard the imp coming and he turned a little to glare at the green midgit running around like a lunatic. Judging by how he was acting, he obviously cared for this girl. His voice was an irritation to sensitive ears, though.
He watched the swarm of bees chase the little guy off, and took that as an oppurtunity to lift Rin up and slide out from under her. Katsuo set her down gently and stood up in front of her, dusting himself off and watching the little toad run back over. Katsuo was just about to walk off when he realized he had set Rin down on the fur cloak. He sighed and folded his ears back in irritation. Should've seen that coming. Katsuo turned to Jaken and smirked a little. "For your information, I'm clean and floral scented, you..." he paused, trying to figure out just what Jaken was. He thought for a moment and figured it was his best bet. "You mutated bird" he stated, all because of the beak like muzzle Jaken had.
Katsuo really didn't want to deal with either of these people. He had to find somewhere to hide, or he'd be youkai bait tonight. Especially since Rin apparently knew Sesshomaru. He didn't want to be seen so weak in front of these people. It was his demon blood that made him powerful, and his human blood that made him weak. He'd do anything to be stronger, more respected. He looked at Jaken and glanced over at Rin. "She mentioned a youkai by the name of Sesshomaru-sama" he stated, looking back down at Jaken. He crouched down and cocked his head to the side. "You wouldn't happen to know where he is, would you...?" he questioned. Perhaps, Sesshomaru would provide a great aid in helping him become stronger. Become powerful enough to withstand the heat of flames.

Rin would like to say that she could tell the second Jaken entered the field, because the sun fell out of the sky and her mood dropped fifty points and the air tasted like poison and her hair stood on end. Oh, sure, she would love to say that that was how it was whenever Jaken entered the area she was currently in, because that was funny! Oh, it would be so much fun to be able to stick her tongue out at Jaken and tell him that he destroyed the atmosphere of wherever he was, no matter when or where. Unfortunately, Rin was not able to claim any such silly thing, and that really did make her just the littlest bit sad. It would’ve been fun, that was for sure.
In any event, Rin was not aware of Jaken the second he entered the field—once again though, Ah-Un was aware of what Rin failed to pay attention to the second it became necessary. But Jaken wasn’t a possible threat, the way the hanyou was, so Ah-Un didn’t immediately move over to strike a protective stance near Rin. Jaken was part of the little ‘family’ that they all made up; so he never had to even think about worrying about being considered a threat to Rin’s safety. And Ah-Un was always on the alert for something that could end up as a threat to Rin’s safety, who knew why the two-headed beast had taken to the little eight year old human girl the way he had, but he truly did seem to have a genuine love and care for her, and she adored him just the same. If it wasn’t for the fact that he lacked a human form, Rin would probably simply have counted him as an elderly brother figure, rather than another guardian. But his large size and the way he always fought to protect her had cast him as a guardian time; along the same—although much more minor—lines as Sesshomaru.
Rin was too busy squealing over a new friend, and the new friend’s simply adorable ears, to even think about paying attention to the fact that Ah-Un had noticed something, and that that something was Jaken entering the field. If she knew that Jaken was there, well there would definitely be a rather victorious feeling riding just under the annoyed upper current of emotion. It always seemed like a very personal battle between Jaken and Rin, the battle to have Sesshomaru-sama’s complete and undivided attention, to get to be with him when no one else was around at all. If Jaken was here, then that meant that he didn’t get to spend alone time with Sesshomaru-sama, which meant that he hadn’t won today! Aha, then that meant that there was still time to have a win to hang over Jaken’s head. Oh, yes, Rin could be devious when it came to plotting spending time with Sesshomaru-sama, who she adored so much.
Tilting her head to the side, she giggled and withdrew her hands after a moment more of scratching behind his ears. “But if you have doggy ears—WHICH ARE SO CUTE—then don’t you like to be scritchy scratched? I wish I had KITTY ears! That would be like, oh my god so cool. Wouldn’t it? And then we could have play fights! I can run really fast, can you run really fast? And I can climb trees. And I like lying in the sun. So I think I would make a really good kitty. Ooooh, and if I was a kitty and you started travelling with us, then we could be like A SUPER COOL SET OF TWINS! And we could like, battle mean beasty demons! And then Sesshomaru-sama wouldn’t send me away when he has to go kill some ugly youkai. Hmph.” She folded her arms over her chest and pouted for a second, thinking about how she lost so much precious Sesshomaru time just because of all the mean scary demons that could eat her if she was around him when they wanted to fight. “Oh, I like your name, Katsuo-san! I wish my name was longer, if my name was longer than you could have fun saying it, like your name. But you can’t have any fun at all with the name Rin. It’s just there. Like ugh. There’s nothing to do with it! I wish my name was prettier. Like how flowers are pretty. I wish I was named after a flower. That would be so cool. How come you don’t have a favorite flower? They smell so good! Surely you really do have a favorite flower, and you just don’t want to tell me! That’s okay, it can be a secret. I LOVE SECRETS. Secrets are like, oh my gosh so much fun to have. I don’t have any though, so that stinks.” She wrinkled her nose and shook her head, and she was just about to get off because she wanted to get back to finding flowers and also because Katsuo had asked so nicely, when Jaken ruined everything by shrieking at her new friend.
She was perfectly happy to let Katsuo move her, though, since she wanted to ignore Jaken and it would be harder to ignore Jaken if she had to stand up and take notice of everything. And plus, he’d put her down on something that was amazingly cozy! Oooooh, she liked it. She wanted it, or something just like it, whatever it was. She had the strongest desire to curl up on and roll around, it was just so comfortable that she didn’t see how anyone could ever get up. But now was not the time for such nonsense, she reminded herself—rather sternly, if she did say so herself—because Jaken was insulting her new friend and that really couldn’t be allowed. She giggled when she heard him defending himself already, because he had thought up the most hilarious thing to call Jaken! She wished she’d thought of that. “Really, Jaken-sama, you should be nice. Katsuo-san doesn’t stink at all, and he has the cutest ears, and he’s really nice—AND OH LOOK AT HIS TAIL!” She had stuck her tongue out at Jaken and was just turning back to Katsuo to make sure that he didn’t mind a little girl defending him, when she found his tail right there! Being the little girl that was, and considering how she’d reacted to his ears, it really shouldn’t have surprised anyone that she automatically made a grab for his furry white tail, giggling all the while. It was just so cute that he had doggy ears and a tail, she was even just the littlest bit jealous.
Thankfully, she pulled her hands back, stood up, and attempted to appear completely composed in the next second; a random desire to be taken seriously coming over her. It was probably because Katsuo had addressed Jaken in the matter of finding Sesshomaru instead of her. It really wasn’t nice of him to do that, since she knew just as much, and it wasn’t like Jaken was a better conversationalist than her. She knew for certain that anyone would prefer to talk to her than Jaken, it was just nonsense to want to talk to Jaken over her. “Ahem. I am the one that mentioned Sesshomaru-sama, and I am perfectly smart enough to answer questions, thank you very much. Sesshomaru-sama is doing stuffs right now, so you should hang out with us, and OOOH, you should totally come back to camp and stay a few days! Or a few weeks. Or months. OR YOU COULD JUST TRAVEL WITH US! That would be so much fun! Please, please, please. Sesshomaru-sama wouldn’t mind at all, I’m sure. And even if he did, if I asked him then I just know he would say yes. ‘Cause you don’t mean anyone any harm, and plus you’re cute, and anyways Sesshomaru-sama doesn’t really like telling me no. He doesn’t want anyone to know that though, so shhh, it’s a secret. Oh, please say you’ll stay with us, pretty please!” Poor little Rin had lost whatever attempt at important composure she’d had before, becoming so excited at the prospect of the adorable little hanyou staying with them even for just a short amount of time. He was just so cute, how could she not want to take him with her? Surely Sesshomaru-sama wouldn’t say no to someone as cool as Katsuo coming along.
Of course, she was as yet unaware that Katsuo had already made Sesshomaru-sama’s acquaintance, if she knew then she would probably have been a little sad that she didn’t get to introduce them, but that would have quickly passed. She never stayed sad over anything for long.

Jaken stared, about to go completely slack-jawed, at the things that happened next. The insolent hanyou proceeded to give out his name, and then had the gall to ask where Sesshoumaru-sama was! Jaken narrowed his eyes and clenched his teeth at the insult. He took in a deep breath and then began waving the staff of two heads around grandly and almost certainly madly. Oh yes, he did have a tendency to get a little crazy with his staff. But hey, it was his only weapon and he deserved to be treated with respect! Being insulted by a useless hanyou? How dare he! "For your information, insolent Cur, I happen to be Sesshoumaru-sama's faithful follower, and have been for centuries! I've crossed through places you've never even dreamed of and seen things that you and your hanyou filth could never experience! Show some respect to the great Jaken!" And thus began his long tirade of rambling. Yes, Jaken was quite prone to those.
But then Rin began babbling before Jaken could even finish his babbling! How dare she! It was his job to babble! He glared at her as she rambled on and on and on and on! Could she never shut up? Jaken was beginning to wonder what sort of human could possess such lungs! "That disgusting hanyou does stink! If you were a youkai and not some human girl you'd know that!" Yes, hanyou did have horrible scents. It was a mixture between youkai and human. The idiocy of whatever youkai parent would dare court a human and the softness and stupidity of said human parent, all rolled into one ball! Ugh! Absolutely disgusting. Jaken eyed Rin closely for a moment after she started babbling about cats. "You fool! Sesshoumaru-sama hates cats! Have you ever even noticed what kind of demon he-" But he was once again cut off as Rin began her useless prattle... again.
Jaken's jaw dropped as she stood up and offered the hanyou a place in their camp, for days! And then she suggested that the filthy insect should follow them! Never! Jaken could not have this happen! He immediately began waving his staff in wide arcs again, the woman's hair flopping around uselessly. "No! No! Never!" He screeched and jumped into the air, swinging his staff around to the hanyou's head. Yes, he would thwack this hanyou in the head if it was the last thing he did! "Sesshoumaru-sama would never carry the dishonor of traveling with a useless hanyou! Don't you dare even entertain the idea!" Jaken would not have this! A human girl was enough, even though he didn't want the useless presence of Rin to die anyway, but a hanyou! Sesshoumaru-sama would never allow it! And if Jaken allowed the hanyou to get much further, then Sesshoumaru-sama would surely have something to say about it!

Katsuo listened to Rin's ranting about cats and what not, and couldn't help but chuckle at her rather over flowing imagination. He tried to keep track of the questions she asked, but eventually lost track of them in her rambles. He merely nodded to show he was trying to listen, as his aunt had taught him a thing called manners. Something the green man to their left had forgotten. Katsuo would rather listen to this girl's endless rambles, rather than the little imp's squawking. Someone should shove a cracker down that beak and silence him.
Katsuo listened to the rambles about names, flowers, and secrets. This girl was rather simple minded, which was rather amusing. Katsuo had to hold back laughter when she mentioned she had no secrets, and how disappointed she seemed to be about it. He had a feeling that her endless rambles were probably the reason she didn't have any secrets. Secrets was something Katsuo had plenty of. Although, his favorite flower was no secret. He didn't have one, because he never learned the names of them. He knew how to raise plants thanks to growing up on a farm, but he never learned the names of the flowers in his aunt's gardens.
Katsuo looked at Jaken as he explained his rank as Sesshomaru's follower, and was a tad surprised. How could anyone stand such a voice for so long? Although, he figured Sesshomaru was probably used to it. Katsuo's tail swayed side to side as he listened to the imp begin rambling almost as much as Rin, and his ears folded back at the nusciance. "Sorry, you must be at least this tall to get respect from the great Katsuo" he mocked, holding his hand just slightly above Jaken's head. He blinked as Rin took to his defense and jumped when she grabbed his tail. He yelped when it was tugged and quickly wrapped the tail around his hips, just below the two packs on the belt around his waist. "Hey, hey, gentle with the tail" he whined at her, and his ears perked back up as Jaken began rambling, again.
Katsuo looked over at Jaken and he growled at him, but tried to control his temper. He had to, he didn't want to scare Rin with the demon blood that Katsuo couldn't control. His ears flattened at the words and he couldn't help but think that Jaken was just there to kill everyone's joy. He paused when Rin scolded him for not asking her and he looked over at her as she explained Sesshomaru was gone somewhere to do something. He smiled at the invite to hang around, and he blinked in shock when she even offered he travel with them.
He would've jumped at the chance, but why did he have to meet these two on the day when there would be no moon? On the day that would turn into night and he would be just as human as Rin was. His 'cute' ears and tails would be gone and he'd be just as useless as Jaken thought he was. He remembered that once every month he'd have to be away from them to hide the embarassing weakness every hanyou had. If he revealed it to them, especially Jaken, what would they do to him or his kind? His ears folded back just as he thought about the idea.
He came back to reality when he was whacked on the head by the imp's staff and he whirled around to glare at the pest. It seemed that his existance was enough to irritate any youkai, but the thought of hanging around them for a long time was enough to make them snap. Katsuo rubbed his head and snarled "I am not a useless hanyou, you ignorant little-" He cut himself so not to curse in front of a child. Katsuo may look and act as a child, but he was old enough to be able to curse like a sailor. He growled instead to censor himself and was tempted to try and freeze him like a popsicle. He'd probably taste disguisting. Katsuo smirked a little as he realized just how to piss this little green man off.
"Hm... Y'know, Rin-chan, I don't think it'd be a bad idea to follow you guys" he mused, looking back over at Rin. His tail swished back and forth in amusement and he added "Although, if Sesshomaru-sama says no, please don't force him to change his mind. I don't wish to frustrate him with a presence he does not want." He glanced at Jaken and smirked, as if daring him to screech at him for ignoring his warnings. Katsuo knew he wouldn't be able to join them tonight, but perhaps tomorrow he could follow them. He looked down at his fur cloak and looked back up at Rin. "By the way, can you give me the thing you're standing on, Rin-chan?" he questioned, gesturing down to it.

Rin was perfectly happy to babble on about anything that crossed her mind for the rest of the day, possibly even for the rest of the week. It wasn’t like she had to worry about making someone angry—well, no one important anyway. She didn’t care if she interrupted Jaken, or if he got his feathers ruffled by her talking nonstop. Now, if Sesshomaru-sama didn’t like her rambling on all the time, then she would do her ever best to be a quiet little child that didn’t say half as much as she currently said every day. But Sesshomaru-sama wasn’t going to tell her to stop talking anytime soon. Oh, sure, he might tell her that now’s a time to be quiet, or ask her to gentle her voice a bit—she had a habit of forgetting how sensitive his ears were, and her voice had a tendency to get loud—but he wasn’t ever going to tell her to learn to be a good deal quieter. She figured he relied on her talking to know that she was alright; he certainly did get worried when she clammed up of her own accord. So she wasn’t going to stop talking, not anytime soon.
But maybe Jaken needed to stop talking, because his voice was really very annoying; and besides, he wasn’t cute like she was. She knew for a fact that a good many people put up with her jabbering just because she was little and cute. Someone really needed to shut Jaken up, and Katsuo-san didn’t know Jaken well enough to shut him up properly, so she supposed it was left up to her. Ah well, if she had to do it, then she had to do it. So, looking just as innocent as you please, Rin knelt down and started touching this flower and that flower, humming all the while, standing up just as one hand grabbed a small rock; which she chucked at his head in the next second. “You’re not all that great, Jaken-sama. If you were such a great follower, why did Sesshomaru-sama choose a little human girl to tag along? Because he couldn’t stand being around only you for another second!” She stuck her tongue out at him, stamping one of her little feet. What she’d said wasn’t entirely true, it wasn’t like Sesshomaru-sama had gone and found her, and decided to take her in as his own. He had saved her life, though, and he’d taken her in, provided and cared for her, worried over her, when he could have left her little corpse lying on the road. Sometimes she wanted to ask him why he’d brought her back; why, if he hated humans so much, he took care of her—but Rin didn’t want to be told that he’d just been seeing if his sword would really work, she didn’t want to turn out to not be special at all, so Rin wouldn’t be asking just yet. Maybe when she was older
But her little victory over Jaken was short lived, in her mind, since he stooped to insulting her over something that she couldn’t even help! Rin wished every day that she was a great youkai like Sesshomaru-sama, that she was anything but a normal little human girl. It was very mean of Jaken to say something like that, she wanted to hit him for it, but she didn’t really hit, so she couldn’t. But she could cross her arms over her chest and glare at him—and she was gonna tell Sesshomaru-sama on him later! Right now she was glaring at him though. “I’m telling Sesshomaru-sama you were mean to me! And he’s gonna throw a TREE at you. And Ah-Un will stomp all over your stupid ugly head. And we’re gonna leave you behind, and take Katsuo-san with us, because Katsuo-san is NICE. And he isn’t ugly like youuuuuuuu.” Her lower lip stuck out, just the littlest bit wobbly, and she stamped each of her feet in rapid succession. Sometimes she really did wish that Sesshomaru would just leave that nasty little imp behind so that he would stop being mean to her. But then he picked on her wish to be a kitty cat, and her features got very strained. Now she really wished Sesshomaru-sama was there. “YOU’RE the fool. Sesshomaru-sama would LOVE a kitty if it was ME. ‘Cause I’m special.” She jerked her head in a nod, then stuck her nose up in the air, turning away from Jaken so that she didn’t have to look at him anymore. He was a meanie poo monkey.
She perked up rather obviously when Katsuo said he might be able to stay with them. Oooooh, her own very best live in friend! This was such a great day now! She started bouncing up and down and clapping her hands, the expression on her face just as giddy as you please. “Ohhhhh please, please stay with us! I just know Sesshomaru-sama will love you! He doesn’t like people to know it, but he’s a big softy, really. Don’t tell him I told you! He’ll take one look at your ears and your tail and….Oh. Hm. Maybe you should wear a hat, actually…” She chewed on her lip and shrugged as she shook her head. “But anyways! I’ll ask him and he’ll be like ‘oh, sure, Rin’ and then we can have fun and play games and all kinds of awesome!” Her plan was going to work perfectly, clearly, except for the minor detail of Sesshomaru-sama not acting anything like that in real life. Oh, sure, he was a softy when it came to Rin, but she was generally the exception to the rule.
When he asked for the very comfortable whatever-it-was she looked just the littlest bit sad as she sighed and nodded her head, stepping off of it and picking it up to hand it to him. “It’s very nice…Where’d you get it?” She asked, tilting her head to the side, looking at the thing as if she’d just had to give up something she loved very dearly; even though this was the first time she’d ever seen it. That was Rin, for ya.

Jaken watched as things quickly went from annoying to worse. Why was this girl so stupid? Why was this hanyou so stupid? Because they had human in them, the obvious answer came to him. He watched, wide-eyed, as Rin began a tantrum. "Hey, your supposed to listen to me! I'm your babysitter!" He squawked. Sheesh, what an annoying brat. Why couldn't she just understand? Jaken was mentally kicking himself. He really wished that Sesshoumaru-sama never would've saved this girl. She was nothing but a nuisance.
"Sesshoumaru-sama keeps me around because I remain useful. What do you do for him? I don't see you running errands, or doing anything that actually helps him! The only reason he keeps you around is because that the great Sesshoumaru-sama is so noble, he feels obligation because he saved you!" Jaken snapped, angry at Rin because of her "I'm-better-then-you!" tirade. Really, why couldn't she just understand! Stupid, stupid human! He turned away from her, trying to ignore her stupidity. Was no easy feat. He was almost calmed down to the level of boiling when something suddenly connected with his head and sent him down into the grass. "Gaah!" After a few moments, Jaken got up and realized it was a rock, and he turned around to see Rin fuming mad at him. She then proceeded to threaten him and call him a fool. Jaken blanched. He wasn't really scared of Ah-Un, the beast was usually passive with anyone unless they tried doing physical harm to Rin, at least from what he'd observed. But flying trees was something that Sesshoumaru-sama could, and would, probably make happen. Although he was pretty sure Sesshoumaru-sama wouldn't leave him behind.
He jumped up again as she started offering the hanyou a place with them. Jaken's face would've been red with anger, had it not already been green with... well, skin. He suddenly got a wonderful idea. He walked up to Katsuo and looked him over skeptically. "I do believe you're right, Rin. Sesshoumaru-sama will love him. He's even half-demon, so that's better then human!" Jaken suddenly got an incredulous look on his face. "Maybe he'll even leave the useless human tag-along behind if this hanyou is in your place!" His tone was far too hopeful as he looked at Rin, almost sadly, surprised and a bit triumphant inside. Oh yes, this would show her! This would definitely show her!
